The BOTS app reviews: Sjoerd

Each BOTS app user has their reasons for investing through the app. But what are these reasons? What motivates them to trade with BOTS? Well: let’s ask them! Today it’s Sjoerd’s turn: who aims to be financially independent.

Sjoerd

“Ameide is a village in Utrecht near Vianen. It’s small but beautiful. I was born and raised there.” Sjoerd Boon is explaining. A 28-year-old working as a commercial, technical advisor. “It’s a field service position, which I adore. You’re in contact with lots of different people, even though the contacts got a bit less during the Corona epidemic.”

Sjoerd bought his first house in Ameide in 2015. “It was a good time to buy, so I can’t complain.”

Sjoerd and the BOTS app

Once settled in his new home, Sjoerd started following Doopie Cash on YouTube. He wanted to use his money to grow more funds and now had the opportunity to do so. In 2017, Sjoerd decided to purchase Bitcoin.

“At one point, the guys from Doopie Cash were on TV on ‘How it’s done’, and BOTS was on that episode as well. I believe that algorithms can do better than humans, so this specific episode immediately caught my attention.”

And so Sjoerd decides to start trading via the BOTS app. “I had promised myself a new computer with the profit I had made from my bitcoin purchase, but instead, I invested all that profit to the BOTS app. I’ll survive without a new computer for a while,” he laughs.

Sjoerd currently has about 20 active bots in the BOTS app, but he doesn’t have a favourite bot. “The top one is always the best, of course, because that’s where the highest returns are.”

Sjoerd does not yet have a strategy. “I just started with a one-time investment and divided it over several bots. The intention is to make monthly contributions. I do the same with my shares.”

Sjoerd now experiences less need to trade himself. “The added value of trading myself had somewhat disappeared with the arrival of the BOTS app.” Long ago, Sjoerd played an online game with his friends. “You had to collect things and stuff, which was quite labour-intensive. Then we found a bot that did those collections for us to progress much faster in the game. And that’s no different to the bots in the BOTS app.”

Sjoerd’s BOTS goals

Sjoerd has two future goals. “The first goal is to have all the bots working for me,” he chuckles. “But ultimately, my goal is to become and stay financially independent.”

Sjoerd has made calculations in which he concludes that he will be financially independent if he can grow his assets by €3000 each month. “So it’s not about wealth for me at all. Material things don’t mean much to me.”

Above all, he wants to have a happy life where I can easily pay the fixed costs while having funds left to go on holiday. “I go on winter sports every year, and I like to backpack during the summer. Those are things I’d rather spend my money on.”

Retiring early is not a goal for Sjoerd. “I enjoy working, so early retirement isn’t a goal in itself. But the feeling that you get from having the choice to work, instead of having to work, is the ultimate form of financial freedom to me.”

And that feeling is precisely the freedom that Sjoerd is aiming for, but in a way that he doesn’t have to make too many sacrifices. “A balance between living now and planning for the future. And the BOTS app is a great tool to do so.”

There is no such thing as risk-free trading. It is possible to lose (part of) your stake.
